Benefits Of Facial Steaming

Our kitchen is no less than a mini salon, it has everything that we need to keep our skin and hair in good condition. Besides the regular items in our refrigerator, something as simple as a cup of boiling water can serve as an excellent treatment for our skin. Its warm steam is not just relaxing, it has many beauty benefits which is why facial steaming has become a popular beauty trend. It is a very simple process and you only need two things- a towel and a bowl of hot water to reap the benefits of facial steaming.

I recommend steaming your face in the evening as it is a relaxing experience. Secondly, our skin repairs itself when we sleep, so facial treatments give better results when done in the evening. You can improve your experience by adding any essential oil to the bowl of hot water, I prefer some green tea, chamomile tea or rose petals. Otherwise, you can simply use plain water for this treatment.

Benefits of Facial Steaming

Steam softens the skin and unclogs the pores. It is a great way of loosening dirt, blackheads, and whiteheads which makes it easier to draw out these impurities. You can also use a blackhead remover afterward since it is easier to get rid of the most stubborn blackheads after steaming.

Improves Absorption

Steaming helps the skin become more absorbent which improves the performance of other facial treatments. If you steam your face before applying a mask or a serum, your skin will be more receptive to these products and the results will be better. In fact, you will love the experience of using a face mask after steaming as it will make the skin super soft and smooth. I generally prefer to massage my face with a cream as the absorption is quicker and I see a remarkable improvement in my skin when I wake up the next morning.

Ideal for relaxation

Steaming helps to relieve stress and provides relaxation which is why this treatment is best done in the evening. You can add any essential oil of your choice to a bowl of water and allow it to work for 10 minutes before going to bed. It will not just help you sleep better but you will wake up fresh the next morning.

Promotes Blood Circulation and Imparts Glow

One of the keys to a beautiful, healthy glow is good blood circulation. Steam dilates the blood vessels which improves the flow of blood making the skin look younger and plumper.

How To Steam Your Face?

The simplest way to steam your face is to take a bowl of boiling water and a towel. Tune in to some nice music and you are all set to start a relaxing stem facial treatment.

I will recommend choosing the essential oil that you would like to use first. Although you can choose to skip this step but adding it will improve your entire experience. Tie your hair in a bun or a ponytail and cleanse your face. Now, bring 2-3 cups of water to a boil and add green tea ( if you prefer to) to it. Allow the green tea to simmer for 2 minutes. If you prefer using essential oil, then you can add one now. Drape a towel over your head, hold your face 6-8 inches above the water and steam for 10 minutes. I will not recommend steaming for more than 10 minutes as it can cause redness and irritation. Splash some lukewarm water to your face and pat dry with a towel. You can follow it with a moisturizer or complete the treatment by massaging your face with a cream or oil and applying a face mask after that.

While this is an excellent treatment for the skin, you must avoid it if you have irritated, sensitive or extremely dry skin.  It is also important to keep your face 5-10 inches away from the steam. You can use this method once a week or once in two weeks depending on your skin type.
