First Month Of The New Year


We are into the third week of 2018. The dawn of a new year gave us a reason to celebrate and the extreme weather almost brought our lives to a standstill in January. However, now that we have settled well into our normal routine after shaking off the festive hangover,  I am sure that you have not forgotten your new year resolutions yet!

A new year, for me, means a fresh start! Personally, I am more comfortable with short-term goals and I had hoped to start this year on a positive note. But, 2018 has not been very kind to me so far. I am still recovering from an acute sickness that sent me to the ER this month and forced me to take a break from blogging. The last few days were difficult but with the support of my husband and my mother, I have been able to start work again.

Since it is so important to focus our energy on positive things, I thought of sharing with you some changes that I have brought in my life in the last few months. These simple lifestyle changes have helped me find a better balance between my work and personal life. Not to mention, I feel more happy, healthy and positive.

Wake up at 5:00 am.

I have never been a morning person and it was probably the most difficult thing for me. But waking up early has made my life a lot simpler. I kick start my day with few glasses of warm water, plan my entire day while sipping green tea and finish all chores on time. It has also helped me devote more time to my blog. When I had started blogging, it was a stress buster for me but now I dedicate few hours to it each day. My days are more relaxed and I am never in a rush to finish things off. Of course, there are times when things do not go as per plan but that’s rare.

Early To Bed, Early To Rise!

Not using the phone for at least 2 hours after waking up.

It is normal to check phone notifications after waking up. There are several emails that are waiting to be answered, social media notifications, and it somehow increases our anxiety levels in the morning. I have stopped ruining my mornings by keeping my phone in silent mode for a couple of hours after waking up. I love that it allows me to focus on things that are important.

Digital Detox

Travelling at least once a month.

Whether it is a short trip or a long vacation, we have started to travel at least once a month. It keeps me motivated, energized and refreshed. After all, who doesn’t like vacations?

Choosing print over digital.

I think I am in a tech detox mode! Although I am not saying that it is the right thing but I am enjoying this phase. During the past couple of years, I was mostly reading on my laptop but my love for books could not keep me away from them for too long. I have bought a few books in the last few months. And, Guess what? It is not impossible to find few minutes to read every day!

Print Over Digital

Healthy Diet

I am a vegetarian and a big time foodie. Although I love to eat everything that is not healthy, I am trying hard to change this habit. I have started to include whole grains in at least one of my meals, servings of fruits and vegetables have increased and I have not had a soft drink in the last six months! But that doesn’t mean I don’t cheat. I may feel guilty the next morning but I love eating out on weekends. In fact, this is what I had for dinner last night (the pictures aren’t great but the food was delicious! )

Travel, eat, take up a hobby and do everything that makes you happy. Take baby steps and see how it changes your life!

    I have started to not look at my phone straight away which is something I always do, I really dont think I am strong enough to get up at 5.30 I know I would be hitting the snooze button x

    I can totally relate, I also got sick right in the beginning of this year so I don’t know how positive of a note that is to start the year. Nonetheless, I am moving on and recuperating. I hope the rest of the year goes better for both of us. Also, I like very much the resolutions you have put for yourself, especially the one for waking up early. That’s a tough one but very important and beneficial!

    It sounds like you are on a good start for the new year, well done! I feel exactly the same about early mornings but then I realised just how much I was able to get done before most people were even awake, It made me feel so much more positive having ticked off my to do list by mid afternoon and then being able to pick what I wanted to do next. I also love your no phone for two hours idea, I think I am going to adopt this one, there must be so many other productive things we could be doing instead!

I am a morning person, I love waking up early (although 5AM is a bit too early for me) and I love the feeling that by the time other people are waking up, I’ve already done so much. I’ve never liked reading books on laptop, but I love your advice on digital detox when it comes to all other things I read. I think I’m going to start buying newspapers again:-)

    I follow a lot of the same habits, have been doing so for a couple years, and I feel that they are super healthy habits that keep me centered and productive. Not using my laptop or phone first thing in the morning really makes a difference, you don’t get sucked in. Luck keeping it all up.

    I really do like your first two ideas here. I think waking up at 5:00 am would help me get my day more organized. And making sure to keep the phone off for the first two hours is a big things as well so you eliminate stress.
